01.Feb - 01. Feb, 2024 Cod. W02-24

This seminar will explore the main results of the Dubai summit, as well as the key issues that we can expect in the future with the help of María José Sanz, scientific director of the Basque Centre for Climate Change, BC3.

Description

The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations to combat climate change was held between 30 November and 13 December 2023 in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The summit was a key meeting since, among other things, it was to approve the first global stocktaking that should analyse where we are, and what the main needs are and identify solutions to advance towards the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

After two weeks of difficult negotiations, the COP28 culminated with the approval of the first global stocktaking, but also of other key issues such as the global target on adaptation, the implementation of the fund to address the losses and damages of the most vulnerable countries or the work package on just transition.

This seminar will explore the main results of the Dubai summit, as well as the key issues that we can expect in the future with the help of María José Sanz, scientific director of the Basque Centre for Climate Change, BC3.
