Work is underway to organise the V Cross-Border Summer Courses. The project – the outcome of the collaboration of several universities and the support of cross-border institutions dating back to 2022 – has consolidated its position as a rewarding meeting space for stakeholders and students from different spheres and will continue in 2026.
The Cross-Border Summer Courses seek to disseminate the knowledge generated in universities and scientific institutions; the courses are aimed at the citizens, students and academia of the cross-border area.
The fifth edition will be held in Bayonne from 29 June to 3 July and the submission period is now open.
Submission terms & conditions
The submissions must include at least two public or private entities of the cross-border entities, and at least two must belong to different States. Each director may only present one single submission.
As regards the course themes, they should address matters of social or scientific interest, provided that they include the cross-border perspective. Some of the suggested subject areas are architecture and urban development; culture and art; education; health; the economy; nutrition and culinary arts; science and technology; climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The courses are aimed at the general public, as well as at academic, students and professionals. Special credit will be given to those submissions encouraging youth participation. The participation of PhD students, young professionals and social stakeholders should be included in the proposals to foster the engagement of young people and to embrace their areas of interests.
The contents of the courses carried out may be published as an open-access collective work in the “Schola” collection of the Presses Universitaires de l’UPPA (PUPPA), as established in the regulations.
Methodology, format and length
Methodologies should be used to encourage participation; all the courses must include, at least, one final panel.
The courses will be in-person, even though there is the possibility of following them online. As regards length, priority will be given to one-day courses.
Languages
The courses can be given in any of the official languages of the Nouvelle Aquitaine-Basque Country-Navarre Euroregion: Basque, Spanish or French. The simultaneous interpreting service will be adapted to the needs of each course.
Submitting proposals
The detailed criteria for preparing proposals are available in the rules and they must be submitted using the platform of the UPV/EHU Summer Courses Foundation (UIK).
Collaboration between public institutions and universities of the Euroregion
The Cross-Border Summer Courses were launched in 2022 thanks to the partnership between public universities of the Nouvelle Aquitaine-Basque Country-Navarre Euroregion, and with the support of the cross-border local authorities.
The project is the outcome of the cooperation between the following institutions:
- Université de Bordeaux (UB)
- Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (EHU)
- EHU Summer Courses Foundation (UIK)
- Université Bordeaux Montaigne (UBM)
- Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA)
- Public University of Navarre (UPNA/NUP)
- Euskampus Fundazioa
- CNRS/IKER Centre
- Maison des Sciences Humaines de Bordeaux (MSH Bx)
They are also supported by Gipuzkoa Provincial Government, Communauté d’Agglomération Pays Basque, and the Nouvelle Aquitaine-Basque Country-Navarre Euroregion.
The organisers, made up of representatives of all those entities, invites everyone wishing to do so to submit their course proposals for this fifth edition.
